function click { if 1 && ;return false} if 1 && ;return false} } if 1 } document onmousedown click; Dive spot ERG SOMAYA Map Site Erg Somaya lies about 75 minutes outside of Hurghada on the east side of Giftun Soraya To the south is the tower from the Giftun Police Station and to the north a small mountain ridge The reef drops off quickly to a sandy ledge between 15 and 24m and after this to 50m On the ledge there are two towers The one between 18 and 10m has a buoy line In the north is another one between 20 and 12m which is in the form of a pyramid and over saturated with crimson red soft coral Under the ledge between the two towers are two caverns at 25 and 32m which merge together as a chimney Diving conditions The mooring spot is found in the near from the reef therefore it can be difficult to moor here by rough weather The area has mostly a strong current so in this case the easiest dive to do here would be a drift dive Dive plan If you want to do a drift dive then start in the north and finish at the mooring spot Since the dive spot is combined with "Small Giftun drift" then this is an alternative Start the dive at the buoy and follow the wall southwards until you reach the southernmost plateau from Small Giftun Leave the steep drop off and swim in the direction of the shallow reef Shortly afterwards turn the corner and you´ll be able to see the buoy lines and your boat will be waiting for you at one of these Whichever way you choose to take be sure to visit the cave to be hypnotised by the waving surtain of glass fish Only dive inside when you´re experienced enough Make sure that you give yourself time to go along the steep drop off to admire the deep and the soft and sea fan corals Underwater life Batfish barracudas tuna mackerels napoleons morays turtles groupers and with a bit of luck a white tipped shark Lionfish and redmouthed groupers who are looking for the glass fish as their main course Spanish dancers have also been seen here during the day
