function click { if 1 && ;return false} if 1 && ;return false} } if 1 } document onmousedown click; Dive spot BANANA REEF Map Site Banana Reef can be found direct on the side of Ben el Gebel in the middle of the straits of Giftun It is otherwise known as Gota Ben el Gebel Gota Torfa el Shait or Shaab Farasha It is a reef in the form of a "Y" with a shallow seabed Diving conditions It is sheltered very well in the south where the buoys are The current is often very strong here As the seabed is shallow and sandy by bad weather is the visibility considerably reduced Dive plan The reef can be dived on either side of the moorings The north easterly point shows a few shallow caves On the other side at the north westerly point there is a fantastically pretty Erg Don´t waste any time on the lee side of the reef it´s as good as dead Swim in the direction of the outer reef on the corner there is a fan formed rock which houses a school of banner fish From here you should swim westerly away from the reef 20m away you will find a tower 4m in height covered with soft corals and a further 20m away is the Erg An overhanging rock looms over coral fragments on the south side the north side drops gently down and is also covered with ulans and crimsonred soft corals Further away the rocks are veiled with sea fan corals Towards the north the seabed drops off to over 20m Underwater life Predominately banner fish but also street sweepers nose doctor fish emperor angel fish and puffer fish In spring eagle rays can be seen as well as the occassional turtle and white tipped reef shark
