function click { if 1 && ;return false} if 1 && ;return false} } if 1 } document onmousedown click; Dive spot ABU KAFAN Map Siet Abu Kafan is a long and narrow reef approx 90 minute to 2 hours outside of Safaga Roughly translated means "the deep" When you dive it then you´ll know why The steep face drops vertically to over the 100m mark In the north a plateau stretches out seawards with 2 vaguely recognisable coral heads In there is a large and colourful erg which connects to the reef at approx 18m In addition to this it appears that the reef stretches out endlessly southwards by 30m Dive conditions Like all of the reefs outside of Safaga the journey there can be somewhat uneasy but once there it is very sheltered Current comes from the north west and are gentle to tremendous Dive plan If you have the possibility then you should do a drift dive along the north plateau and the east face Many locals would grade it higher than the north plateau from Panorama When this it not possible due to weather conditions then you should dive the south side of the reef from the moorings past the erg to the south and if the current allows it then along the east face until you return back to the reef Underwater life The steep face is covered with soft coral black coral and sea fan coral Turtles are seen here regularly whereas grey reef sharks and silver tipped sharks are spotted alone occasionally On the north plateau you should keep a look out for large tuna Many large barracudas are at home here and depending upon the time of year hundreds of them gather together in schools In the late summer hammer heads can be seen A school of glass eyes dangle strangely enough over the middle of the reef and when a large predator comes by they seek shelter on the face of the reef
